What A Splash!

Here is another of my pictures from my trip. I had waited for quite some time to get a picture like this. At last I got a couple who went near the waves to have a taste of the power of the sea. And yes they did get the taste. I took many shots. They tasted a few more similar waves after this. But well as you see, this was hard experiment for them. They soon left the place. But they also left behind a good shot in my camera. :-)

Golden Beach

This rising sun captivated me so much that I stood there mesmerised for some time after taking this shot.

With this picture, from now on for some time, I will be uploading pictures of a photographic adventure that I had recently. It was an extraordinary experience as this time I had stretched myself to great lengths from walking for hours endlessly along coast lines to going into waist-deep water of the turbulent sea with fishermen to takes snaps of the moments of coastal life. I hope you will like my pictures. Take care.

Way to The Victoria

This is a small section of the boundary wall of the Victoria Memorial, Kolkata. I took this picture one evening and have done some post -processing in CS2 to give this impression. I hope you like it.

Launch Of My Website

Dear Readers,

For quite sometime I had been thinking of having a website on my photography where I can display my work with proper categorisation. It was necessary to have a site as there has had been several occasions where I had been asked if I had a personal site. But I was unable to furnish something like that. And a blog does not do much good from that point of view as a blog has its limitations in terms of displaying ones work. Moreover my blog is not only about pictures, but even beyond that. I do not want to use my blog as a platform for business or to get recognition. In my blog I want to interact with you all and ponder on important things like 'love' and 'life'. I want my blog to be on an intellectual level rather than commercial level.

So finally I found out a way to have a separate site only on my photography. So I launched a personal website through www.wix.com. There I have displayed many of my pictures. You may go to the following link to have a look at my work.

It was very hard work to make that website. I worked for complete 12 hours constantly with a break of only 1 hour for having my food. It was very complicated as I was a total novice. More than that, I did not use the templates offered by the site, and designed the entire thing myself. It was very hard work with frequent 'crashes' of the internet explorer and the internet connection. I will be looking forward to your feedback on my website. I hope you will like it.  You will get to see many pictures which you had not seen on this blog. In the mean time, I will go on posting new pictures on the website and also on my blog. We will do all our discussions on this blog.

Thank you all for your cooperation and inspiration that you had given me so long.

Regards,

Subhanjan.

Little Girl and Her Smile

Here is a little girl from a nearby village. I like her expression a lot. I find her restricted smile hiding a life that is too hard for us to comprehend. Her eyes tell a story to me.

One Eyeland

In the recent past I came to know about 'One Eyeland' from Better Photography. It is a website designed by the world-renowned fashion and advertising photographer and the lens man of India - Sharad Haksar. Not only is he a multi millionaire and his work celebrated world wide, but he brought a kind of revolution in fashion photography in India, that has won him more than thirty national and international medals and awards. Another notable fashion photographer alongside him is Atul Kasbekar.

'One Eyeland' is a very special and exquisite platform for photographers to showcase their work. If you go through the gallery of the website, you will see that the members are professional photographers from different countries doing extraordinary work. Most of the work is not what we know by traditional photography, but is more of abstract fine art, photojournalism, advertisements, and photographic campaigns. Here is the link to the website:

Now getting your picture featured over there is very hard because there is no guarantee that the pictures you upload will make it to One Eyeland. There is a rigorous filtration procedure that precedes the selection. They have a jury of six very hard-to-please photo editors. If your image is approved by 4 out of the 6 members, your image is deemed as selected. In case, it is a 3-3 tie, their Chief Editor casts the deciding vote. If he likes it, the image is picked. Else, it's not. It's as simple as that. And the most important part of it is that if you see the pictures you will feel that many of them are digitally generated. But believe me they are not. The pictures are actually taken and then processed with no addition or subtraction. They are natural and extraordinary.

Though it is a simple process for these photo editors, it is difficult for a photographer to get the break. With the least hope I have been trying for some time to feature my work over there. Believe me it was hard. Especially when you see extraordinary work featured over there by extremely skilled, well-known, and professional photographers. But then today I got my chance. At last one of my pictures out of the ones I had sent has been selected by them and put up on their gallery. I am so glad that my work has been featured alongside those of Ted Sabarese, Andreas Kauppi, Marcus Hausser, Enamul Hoque, Sharad Haksar himself, and many other dignitaries in the world of photography. I feel myself privileged. I am very much thankful to the jury of One Eyeland for accepting and displaying my picture. And I am also grateful to them for giving me a Global Ranking of 26 and a National Ranking of 6 as a photographer. I do not know how I deserve that but I am pleased and surprised that they gave me such ranking. My picture belongs to the category of ‘Exterior Architecture’. You will reach to my picture by clicking on the following link:

I think you will not be able to see the picture in an enlarged form because to do that you have to be registered in their directory as a photographer. So I have uploaded the picture for you to see. Click on it to see an enlarged form.
